Mike Curtis of HD for Indies goes on a self-confessed rant regarding the death of indie film as a business model.
There's a lot to digest in there especially as there are 60+ comments that are for/against his premise that Indie film as a business is "deader than fried chicken. "
This will become the basis for a series of posts by me dissecting some of the assumptions and statements he makes --
- regarding piracy and the internet.
- his "bad math" of indie moviemaking, based in part on Mark Gill's speech, which I dissected here.
- where to spend your money (onscreen and marketing)
- Rumors v. facts and figures
- Pitfalls and thought traps...
Mike and I disagree on a lot of things, but he makes a lot of valid points and asks the question that needs asking: "Where do we go from here?"
So go read the post, read the comments, and get ready to crawl under the hood of "indie film" (whatever that term means, which is part of the problem).
