I remember when Christopher Reeve flew across the screen for the first time. That's why when I see images like this I know I'm going to see something pretty cool.But really, wouldn't the image look a heck of a lot better like this?

Hmm...now I'm torn. A newsreel looking Superman or a modern one. Maybe they could do a period piece version, like Kong. Can you imagine a Superman movie placed in 1930's America, or even a WWII one? You could open with a newsreel in B/W and shift to color...the possibilities are endless.
I too am excited about the new Superman film.
I think that the "S" on his chest should be larger to make his chest appear beefier.
The shorts could use a little lengthening as well. He looks like he just escaped a Speedo convention in the south of france...
Still, looking at the footage thus far you get the sense that the myth is in the footage.
Nah, ya gotta see the red and blue. Besides, no matter how old you are they never printed the comic in black and white!
And yes, the small S is the only problem I have with the costume.

Let me put it to you this way: If I were to date women that were half my age, they would JUST be able to get into a bar here in the states.
Sky Captain would have looked good in B&W - did you catch the original demo reel Conran made that was in B&W? I just think that it helps in the suspension of disbelief -- which I think would help in building the tension... (something I know you can relate to).
I actually like "Number One's" suggestion of a newsreel going into color. I use a similar motif for my own Knightmare. It was also used for the wretched Van Helsing.
Would it work for all things? Nope. I don't like the idea for Indiana Jones. However, I think in the right circumstances B&W works better.
I have a son almost half my age who started wearing Superman pajamas when he was three years old and now has a Superman cell phone, Superman decals in the window of his pickup, and yes, Superman "lounge pants". You may age and I may age but Superman never grows old.
