I've Been Thinking ...

Very hard about what I am calling "Open Source Pulp" (1st Google reference!) and the whole "NewPulp" movement, especially as it relates to new media and production...

Apparently I am not alone in these thoughts. (referral courtesy of Warren Ellis's Whitechapel)

This is open for discussion.

All manifestos give me the Jibbilies. Even manifestos that are self-aware enough to realize that all manifestos give me the Jibbilies. That self-awareness does incline me to make out with the manifesto in question at a party for a while, but probably not call it later.

Probably.

Wow, that was fantastic. For years I've been trying to articulate what "Neo Pulp" is. I've been (trying) to explain this concept for years. I don't think I have alot of add as he really sums it all up. I do think the real and surreal elements are in proportion to each other. If you make your character real/honest/true to life, you can make them (or there situation) equally clique/surreal/dishonest. e,g If you can get your character to honestly expresses the human need to love and be loved, then you can have them go on to fall in love with a robot nazi nun.

Decoderring - depends on the dress the manifesto is wearing that night.

Dr. Spider.man - welcome from the Retromedia board.

I'm certain I don't like the term "NeoPulp" or (shudder) "NuPulp" as I simply prefer "NewPulp."

Marrying sophisticated characters with outlandish concepts has done all right by JJ Abrams and the team from LOST so I'm aboard.

But seriously - "Robot Nazi Nun" ? Do you really think you could look yourself in the mirror the morning after?

Synthetic Bioplasm Construct (TM, patent pending) on the other hand...
