No Explanation Required: Mad Pulp Media

So if you've been reading the Pulp Legion Electrograms I send out every month, or have gone to my Facebook album you've seen the spectacular "blaxploitation" artwork by Nik Macaluso for our first book release BROTHER BLOOD by Donald F. Glut.

(Pls. comment here or on the Facebook page - thanks!)

I wanted to take a moment to explain the name of our new endeavor, Mad Pulp Media. (I say "we" not in the royal sense by any means. I mean in the sense that it's a group of us banding together to bring you this stuff that we think is cool. It's you telling us whether or not we succeeded in bringing it. It's all of us together) . Some people have taken issue with the name. That it makes not so good business or marketing sense.

I get that alot.

I have a history of saying things in meetings that elicits looks akin to "Did you just eat human flesh in front of me?" I'm used to it by now. People who know me, know that I have a different perspective on things. It's okay. I get it.

But as many times as I bump heads in a meeting, as many times as I have to actually explain the references I'm using for copy or artwork, as many looks as I get telling me I'm crazy...
I know that there is an audience out there that is also hungry for the kind of stuff that turns my crank, as outre' as it may sometimes be.

One of the biggest traffic-getters for this site is when I post a trailer for a movie with the prefix: No Explanation Required. Stats fly through the roof. It gets linked around. People comment, send me emails to more of it, and really seem to love this stuff. They also lament that there isn't more to be had...

So, if you live in a world where it makes perfect sense:

- That a funky black vampire haunts the nightclubs of the Sunset Strip circa 1970...
- That monsters sewn from the dead flesh of cadavers rise up...
- That the Cold War of the 1960's was fought more in the cold of space than East Berlin winters...
- That a masked wrestler travels the world fighting aliens, spys and the supernatural...
- That a young girl becomes the greatest stuntperson in the world and uses her skill and daring to solve mysteries...
- That the western heroes of radio, movies and comics were real - and they occasionally teamed up...
- That what went on behind the scenes of a cliffhanger serial was far more adventurous than what was caught on camera...
- That books and videos and merchandise should reflect the energy and outrageousness of all of the above. That they should be colorful. Outlandish. Memorable. Collectible yet affordable. Be easy to access and enjoy on a variety of levels...

Then you're going to fit right in with this and whatever else we have coming. Call us mad if you must. It is a label I will wear proudly... and I will thoughtfully remind you:

If I am mad - I am not the only one.

No Explanation Required: La Mujer Murcielago (The Batwoman)

It should come as no surprise to anyone that I have a poster from this movie in my office. It's a pretty iconic image - part 1960's Batgirl (Yvonne Craig) meets Dr. Goldfoot and the Bikini Machine by way of Mexico.

But Geek Orthodox gives you the lowdown on this classic bit of Mexi-cinema far better than I could.

Go. Now.

No Explanation Required: KILLER WEED

I receive trailer links and screeners all the time and to be frank (not Joe nor Mike) most of that stuff gets placed in the circular file after a quick glance.  Do not take that as my saying "Please don't send me things," because nothing could be further from the truth.  I will wade through the most foul detritus if only to come across tiny gems like this  from Rhys Dyer:

----------------------------------------------------------------

Hi Bill,

Check out the latest teaser trailer for KillerWeed:

Started as a micro-budget project, KillerWeed has somewhat escalated as we've attracted attention from prominent British filmmakers such as Richard Holmes (Producer "Eden Lake").  We're looking to drum up exposure before filming this June around England and the Isle of Man.  It would be fantastic if you could support us any way by mentioning KillerWeed in your blog; you could genuinely make an impact in the success of this film, and the amount invested in it.

Sincerely,

Rhys Dyer
